After many years of enjoying mural painting, faux finishing, stenciling, and creating trompe l'oeil images in her own home and in the homes of friends and family, Geri Voran thought it was time to turn her artitistic talents into a business. Geri launched A Brush With Design, LLC, located in Sterling, Virginia. The artists of this licensed studio will work with you and/or your designer to create a unique and special vision to grace the interior walls of your home or business. From full color complete room murals to stenciled details and borders to faux finished rooms or accent walls to trompe l'oeil (trick the eye) designs, our artists and craftsmen will work with you to complete your dream space.
We use only the finest paint and materials. For murals we generally use artist acrylics by Liquitex. There are several high quality brands we use for faux finishes, depending on the texture. These brands include: Benjamin Moore for latex, glazes, and textured mediums and Ralph Lauren for specialty paints.
Geri Voran, owner and principal artist, was born and raised in New York and has been living in Northern Virginia since 1987. She has studied art in New York, Northern Virginia and Maryland in various media. Studies have included photography, drawing, oil and acrylic painting, computer graphics and faux finishing.
The rest of the Voran family help with the business in many ways, including painting background scenery and some faux finishes. The Vorans keep involved in their community through numerous activities including volunteering regularly with the National Park Service at Wolftrap, Habitat for Humanity, supporting the Signature Theater, and Rick has frequently coached local volleyball and basketball teams. They also reach out to the international community by hosting foreign exchance students from Japan in the past and Germany next school semester.
